Technology Accreditation Canada Accredits
Engineering Technology Programs at Red Deer College
On January 28, Technology Accreditation Canada (TAC) celebrated virtually with students, staff and faculty at Red Deer College accreditation of the institution’s Mechanical Engineering Technology and Electrical Engineering Technology programs. Assessed against the National Accreditation Criteria, national program accreditation involves a comprehensive audit of academic policies and program learning outcomes, interviews with employers of graduates, alumni, students and faculty and a tour of the programs’ labs and student support services.
The audit teams (identified below) noted the excellent balance of breadth and depth of each program, providing graduates with employment opportunities in various industry sectors. Specifically, the Electrical program blends the traditional discipline of power generation and distribution with the more contemporary specialization of instrumentation and automatic control. With a particularly strong connection, students in the Mechanical program are exposed to industry through field trips, industry related capstone project topics, guest speakers and Industry Night.
“We very pleased to have both the Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Technology programs at Red Deer TAC accredited,” commented Richard Stamper, TAC Executive Director. “We congratulate each program on this significant achievement as it demonstrates a commitment to its students, delivering a program which meets the current standards of the engineering technology and applied science profession.”
“RDC is committed to TAC accreditation for our Engineering Technology programs because of what it means for our students and our industry partners,” says Joel Gingrich, Dean of Trades and Technologies. “Accreditation affirms the national-class quality of our programs, students’ learning experiences, excellent facilities, and faculty expertise, each of which we are extremely proud.”
Additionally, national program accreditation provides graduates an expedited path to professional certification through The Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta, other provincial certifying bodies across Canada and the signatory countries of the Sydney and Dublin Accords of the International Engineering Alliance.

About Red Deer College
Red Deer College’s story began in 1964 when its first group of students attended classes. The College proudly serves its learners and communities with more than 100 programs, as well as impressive learning spaces and facilities.
RDC continues to grow programs across a breadth of credentials as it transitions to become Red Deer University. Once this transition is complete, the institution will add its own degrees to the programs it offers.
The College estimates that about 6,200 full-and part-time credit and apprenticeships students will enroll for the 2020/2021 academic year. RDC also provides lifelong learning opportunities to 34,000 youth and adult learners annually in the School of Continuing Education, which is housed at its downtown campus, located in Red Deer’s Millennium Centre. RDC’s main campus is located on Treaty 7, Treaty 6 and Métis ancestral lands. This is where we will strive to honour and transform our relationships with one another.
